For this lesson we focused on line, one of the most basic and important elements of art. We discussed how we see lines in artwork and in the world around us.
We drew many types of lines, then we drew a line with 5 loops. Then we turned those loops into sea creatures.
Besides focusing on the importance of line, I wanted students to understand that making mistakes is ok, and sometimes leads to a new idea. If students made a mistake they "turned their mistake into something", a lot of times they came up with more creative ideas than they have originally planned. Here's how they turned out:
